Holger Graf earned his Ph.D. in structural engineering from his studies in Germany, while Daniel Lantz let fate lead him to grow deep roots in the shokunin world of Japan. Truly at the intersection of opposites, they came together in Los Angeles, California over 12 years ago to create Graf Lantz.
They started by toying with designs in a rich but largely forgotten textile: merino wool felt. Together Holger and Daniel set out to sculpt the world’s oldest fabric into modern and unexpected forms, crafting a definitive collection of handbags, accessories, and homeware items that are built to last years and age gracefully. Today, Graf Lantz has transcended its artistry in felt with explorations in colorful and modern mixtures of leathers and canvas.
Rooted in sustainable operations, Graf Lantz's entire line is designed by their Los Angeles studio team, and they work with trusted local manufacturers so that we can keep the majority of their production close. They only use top-quality, pure German merino wool felt that's biodegradable and renewable and they use chemical-free vegetable tanning whenever possible for their leather products. Graf Lantz is vigilant in wasting as little as possible by ensuring every scrap is utilized. Quality means incorporating everything from where a material is sourced and how it’s made, to how they treat the people whose art and passion create the finalized product.
