Fair + Simple was born from Molly Accord's passion for making sustainable handmade goods and her desire to create a business that would help others. Fair + Simple targets investing in women and job creation in marginalized areas of need. And not just any job, but good jobs with fair living wages in safe work environments which respect and dignify the producer or artisan rather than exploit and compromise. In addition, a portion of their profits goes to The Made by Women Fund which supports women artisans and makers around the world through skill development, proper equipment, and education so their business can flourish. Today, Molly works with women's cooperatives and fair trade factories in Peru, Guatemala, Kenya, Nepal, India, Malawi and her home state of Oregon to produce Fair + Simple goods.
Not only does Fair + Simple impact the lives and communities of the people who make their products, but they also work to impact the planet because environmental and social responsibility are inextricably linked. Sustainability is a two way street which involves both the manufacturing and market sides. What value does a fair trade basket have if it falls apart after a few uses? Or what is the true cost of a purse if the planet and people were exploited while making it? Fair + Simple produces with quality materials, skilled craftmanship and timeless design to ensure that they are providing goods that last for consumers.
